By 2026, Red Stitch will have led the way in Australian independent theatre for a quarter of a century. As our company matures, so do our ambitions. 

We are launching a multi-year $2 million campaign, to help us continue to transform Australian theatre for generations to come.

Our artist-led model is unique in this country, and a vital contribution to our cultural landscape. In 2024 alone Red Stitch celebrated: our first commercial production with Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? transferring to The Comedy Theatre, a new in-house touring model, a string of acclaimed productions, increases in box office sales and much more behind the scenes.

2024 also saw an increasingly challenging funding environment, and multiple closures of small-medium companies throughout Australia. Our organisation does not receive federal funding, and 82% of our annual income is generated through box office and private giving. Recent years have seen an increase in experienced mid-career practitioners leaving the sector, and emerging artists struggling to find a way in. Red Stitch is more important than ever. We need your help to support our organisational capacity and to improve pay for artists, to avoid losing them. 

Our Long Live Big Little Theatre fundraising campaign will ensure that we can:

• Increase artist wages to contribute to a more sustainable sector

• Build financial security by consolidating new income streams that help us maintain our independence 

• Keep making great theatre in Melbourne, and sharing it with audiences across the country.
