Red Stitch - Melbourne Theatre - Policy - Health and Safety

PURPOSE 

Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre recognises its legal and moral responsibility to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, actors, contractors and visitors. Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre management will take all measures necessary to ensure adherence to safe work practices and conditions. 

OBJECTIVES 

Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre is committed to: 

  • providing a safe workplace, equipment and systems of work 

  • providing information, procedures, instructions, training and supervision where applicable to ensure the safety of all staff, actors, contractors and visitors 

  • ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and current industry standards 

  • providing support and assistance where required

APPLICATION 

This policy is applicable to Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre in all its operations and functions including those situations where personnel are required to work away from Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre headquarters, including in external venues. All personnel are subject to the same occupational health and safety conditions. 

It is expected that all Employees (as defined in the Code of Conduct) and visitors will observe rules and safe working practices and make every effort to reduce the risk of injury to themselves, their fellow workers and others. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

All employees and visitors must comply with this policy and contribute to a safe and healthy work environment. 

Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre management team is responsible for: 

  • the provision and maintenance of the workplace in a safe condition 

  • training employees in the safe performance of their assigned tasks 

  • the provision of resources and information to meet the health and safety commitment 

All employees and visitors must: 

  • follow all health and safety policies and procedures 

  • report all known or observed hazards to their immediate manager 

  • together with the Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre Executive and management team, be involved in the implementation of health and safety policies and procedures

CONSULTATION 

Red Stitch Actors’ Theatre is committed to consultation and cooperation on Occupational Health and Safety. 

BREACH OF POLICY 

Breaching this policy shall be deemed as a breach of contract.
