BEQUESTS - Leaving a Legacy…

You can make a dramatic difference by remembering Red Stitch in your will. A bequest to Red Stitch is a wonderful way to help to secure the long-term future of our company. It is a personal and meaningful way to ensure that future generations of artists and audiences alike can experience the magic that is created by the Red Stitch ensemble.

In Australia more than 30% of people die without leaving a valid will. Their assets are distributed according to law and not necessarily according to their wishes. The following information has been compile to assist you in directing your assets where you wish.

We welcome the opportunity to talk you about specific activities you would like to support with your bequest, or we can nominate the areas of most need. Remembering Red Stitch in your will can be a lovely way to contribute to the Endowment Fund, established to provided financial certainty for years to come. All conversations are respectfully held in confidence and gifts of any size are gratefully accepted.

We also recommend that you seek advice from your solicitor or financial adviser.

HOW TO MAKE A BEQUEST TO RED STITCH ACTORS THEATRE LIMITED

There are several ways you can make a bequest to our company:

• Give the company an asset or specific sum of money

• Leave the company a percentage of your estate

• Leave the company a particular item/items of value (such as shares, paintings, property, jewellery etc)

• Make a bequest to “Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited” to take effect after the death of your spouse, indicating the portion which would revert to the company

• Take out a life insurance policy with “Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited” nominated as the beneficiary

• You may specify that the remainder of your estate be given to “Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited” after all other bequests have been given

• You may specify that if any named beneficiary is unable to accept your bequest, “Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited” will become the alternative beneficiary

• You can donate assets such as a house, land or paid up life insurance policy as a tax deductible gift now, which may relieve you of any capital gains tax due upon sale

SUGGESTED WORDING FOR INCLUSION IN YOUR WILL

You may wish to use the following working for the different types of gifts.

I give to Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited currently of Rear, 2 Chapel Street, St Kilda East, in the State of Victoria, Australia (the “Theatre”) [the whole of my estate] or [x% of the residue of my estate] or [the sum of $ ______] free of all duties and taxes thereon and direct that it be applied for:

A. The general purposes of the Theatre in such a manner as the Board of the Theatre may determine.

OR

I express the wish but without creating any binding trust that if practical this gift be applied toward _______ [insert specific purpose].

OR

B. Direct it be applied for [state the purpose as widely as possible to avoid any difficulty in application].

I declare that the receipt by the Chair or other authorised officer of the Theatre will be sufficient discharge for my trustees.

For an alternative gift, precede the clause with:

“Should any beneficiary not succeed me by 30 days or refuses to accept any bequest to him/her under this my Will, then I give and bequeath such bequest to Red Stitch Actors Theatre Limited currently of Rear, 2 Chapel Street, St Kilda East, in the State of Victoria, Australia (the “Theatre”) (free of all duties and taxes thereon and I direct that it be applied for general purposes of the Theatre in such a manner as the Board of the Theatre may determine and I declare that the receipt by the Chair or other authorised officer of the Theatre will be sufficient discharge for my trustees.”

It helps us identify who our supporters are, and enables us to keep you up to date with exciting developments. When we learn of your bequest you automatically become part of The Bequest Program which also includes you in select events.
