Sam Diamond

Designer Graduate 2022

Born and raised in Perth, Sam was brought up with a great love of the arts and performing. Over many years working adjacent to live performance as front of house in theatres and for festivals such as Perth Arts Festival and Fringe World, he felt a desire to become involved in the staging and creative process.

Completing a Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture) at the University of Western Australia provided a solid grounding in design practices and principles. Relocating to Melbourne in 2019, he then undertook a Master of Design for Performance at the Victorian College of the Arts with a focus on set, lighting and costume design. Over his time studying Sam had the opportunity to undertake a great deal of design work (both theoretical and practical), work on several academic and professional productions, and expose himself to the wide variety of both Melbourne’s and Australia’s cultural landscapes.

As a recent graduate designer he is interested in building a professional career and honing his artistic practice by working with diverse teams of people and exploring theatre that pushes the boundaries storytelling, representation and design.
