Join us for the Australian Premiere of

By Amy Herzog

It is beginning to feel like a tiny Parisian apartment here as we count down the days to our Australian premiere of Belleville by Amy Herzog.

We premiered Herzog’s 4000 Miles last year to critical acclaim and sold-out houses and Belleville, while inhabiting a very different world, further confirms the playwright’s remarkable talent. Like 4000 Miles, Belleville demonstrates Herzog’s extraordinary skill for giving life to complex, rich and emotionally true characters. No wonder it was named one of the Top Ten Theatre Shows of 2013 by the New York Times!

Whilst preparing for Belleville, we were thrilled to learn that The Flick by Annie Baker has just been awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for Drama. We are premiering The Flick in association with Melbourne International Film Festival in August this year.

We have followed the work of Herzog and Baker for some time, and it is wonderful to see them recognised to this extent. I suggest booking early for both!

See you at the theatre,

Paris. Christmas. In their new bohemian neighbourhood, Abby and Zack are discovering shards of each other they never suspected. A young couple living away from their friends and family, fears and secrets simmer until they are balancing dangerously close to a precipice that will change everything. What are the limits of trust and truth, and who will break them?

Belleville is directed by Denny Lawrence, who makes a welcome return to Red Stitch ten years after directing Loyal Women. Ensemble members Paul Ashcroft and Christina O’Neill are joined by guest actors Tariro Mavondo and Renaud Momtbrun. Set design is by Jacob Battista, with lighting design by Clare Springett and sound design by Chris Wenn.

Thrillingly good…confirms Herzog’s reputation as one of the brightest new talents in theatre.” The New York Times

I called Herzog’s 4000 Miles the best play of last year, but Belleville is a worthy rival -convincing evidence that, among the new crop of young American playwrights, Herzog is in a class by herself.” Time Magazine
