Merryn Carter has a strong background in marketing, business development and fundraising. She has recently developed marketing and professional development programs for the Australia Council for the Arts, including its business planning workshops for organisations in the visual arts, literature, music, dance, theatre, and indigenous arts sectors. She was the Marketing Manager for the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF) 2004-2008, and has also held senior roles with major performing arts companies such as Melbourne Theatre Company and Sydney Symphony. Her experience over more than 20 years also includes consulting in marketing, research and development for a wide range of organisations nationally including festivals, regional performing arts centres, art galleries, major performing arts companies, dance and commercial arts organisations. Originally trained as a musician (she holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Melbourne), she is also a graduate of the Master of Business Administration course at Melbourne Business School.
