THIS YEAR’S ASHES
This Year’s Ashes by Jane Bodie, directed by Tim Roseman (Artistic Director of Playwriting Australia) features stellar performances by Daniel Frederiksen, Rosie Lockhart and Jeremy Stanford.
The Age caught up with Jane Bodie to find out why she loved working with Red Stitch;
“They’re breathing new life into it and the play opened up in a whole new way.” Read more HERE.
Heres’ what the critics are saying…
“Bodie has a sardonic wit [and] a sharp ear for dialogue… absorbing and nuanced performances.”
Cameron Woodhead, The Age

“The production is credit to the cast who deliver a raw, sincere and present performance, a testament to the playwright’s witty and clever script and Tim Roseman’s deft direction.” Nu Tran, St Kilda News

Ensemble member Rosie Lockhart, who plays Ellen in This Year’s Ashes, gives us an insight into her experience of working on the play.
“The gift (or curse?) of working in the theatre is the work doesn’t simply stop after Opening Night. Long after the flowers have been vased and the reviewers have published their two cents, “the work” – the sculpting of the play continues behind the scenes. Our production of This Year’s Ashes at Red Stitch is no exception and Bodie’s whip-sharp dialogue is certainly still keeping Dan, Jeremy and I on our toes!
We’re 2 weeks into our 5 week season and the show is shifting and growing as we share it with our audiences who become part of the story each night. When I chat with my Mum on the phone she usually asks me “How was the show last night?” It may come as a surprise to you but my answer is almost always about the audience and the energy they breathed into the performance.
Our audience is what makes theatre a live, viscerally engaging and powerful human experience. We’re discovering how This Year’s Ashes explores the human condition in a way that has deeply affected those who’ve been to see it and we’d love you to come along and share it with us.”
