Don’t miss…
BELLEVILLE

Belleville by Amy Herzog has opened at Red Stitch and it’s a hit! The response has been overwhelming with waiting lists every night. Directed by Denny Lawrence, Belleville features nuanced performances by ensemble members Paul Ashcroft & Christina O’Neill and special guests Tariro Mavondo & Renaud Momtbrun. Book now to avoid the queues.

Here’s what the critics are saying…
“Herzog is a master of set-up and reveal. Lawrence streamlines that process through casting and design. Belleville is quintessential Red Stitch repertory theatre.” Chris Boyd, The Australian.

“Denny Lawrence has directed a taut and forbidding production of this domestic thriller.” Rebecca Harkins-Cross, The Age.

“The Australian Premiere of Belleville is absolutely first-rate. The coming together of American playwright Amy Herzog and Director Denny Lawrence has resulted in a top quality ‘must see’ production…Emphasis and praise must be given to the superb acting throughout this play, and in particular to Christina O’Neill, who is an absolute shining star.” Lisa Romeo, Toorak Times.

“The sense of claustrophobia in Red Stitch’s production is intense and the pace is tightly held throughout… With complete psychological acuity, Amy Herzog demonstrates her prowess as a writer in this stunning performance by Red Stitch.” Liza Dezfouli, Arts Hub

“Denny Lawrence’s direction is unobtrusively brilliant… It’s also utterly engaging, and deserves to be seen.” Tim Byrne, Arts Review

“Red Stitch Actors Theatre has its finger on the pulse when it comes to Australian premiers of hot new international plays. Red Stitch Writers and St Michael’s Grammar School present
THE FLOCK AND THE NEST
by Glyn Roberts

A World Premiere developed by Red Stitch Writers
Directed by Gary Abrahams
Cast includes ensemble members Dion Mills & Ben Prendergast

A first-time partnership with St Michael’s Grammar School and Red Stitch Actors Theatre, The Flock and the Nest is part-scripted and part-improvised, bringing together 12 students and four professional adult actors.

Ebony, recently widowed, lives on a remote rural property with her young son, Terry, her wayward brother Mark and his boys from a long ago failed marriage. They are lost and left alone. That is until the Ebony’s sister-in-law, Niamh, visits from the inner-city suburbs of Melbourne, accompanied by her husband, Martin, and their brood of teenage girls. What starts as a holiday and family reunion soon falls apart, becoming a desperate fight for land and love waged in a haze of grief and ghosts.

The Flock and the Nest is a moving and arresting drama about the resilience and fragility of adults and youth in the face of loss and change.

Location: St Michael’s Grammar School Drama Studio, 4 Chapel St, St Kilda
